Old Gaffers Association celebrating our Jubilee

Revised 16/4/13

This year The Old Gaffers Association are celebrating our 50th Birthday raising money for the RNLI

To celebrate this landmark in the history of the preservation of traditional gaff rig our lovely boats will be out on the first leg of their journey around the UK starting in Holland and Maldon on the East coast on April 21st and joined and greeted en route by many other Old Gaffers.

The Climax of the Celebrations will be the OGA Jubilee Festival at Cowes 15th - 18th August.

Some members will complete the Round Britain Challenge which is a 4 month long circumnavigation of Britain, calling at many Ports, whilst others accompany the Round Britain fleet on part of its way in their area in the form of a Relay carrying tokens from area to area.

The Trackaphone system will allow the progress of the tokens and of many of the the Challenge boats to be followed online. It is hoped the event will attract Radio and TV coverage.

Follow the boats and blogs!

Special events have been planned at many ports along the Round Britain Challenge route. If you wish to participate in any of these celebrations please complete the "Expression of Interest" form for each Port. (See OGA Area Events pages). After the event these pages will show reports and pictures of the event.
(see reports and pictures of The Hamble and Plymouth events)

The Skippers Handbook is now available. It contains useful information provided by the OGA Areas for boats visiting their ports - tips on navigation, mooring, events etc.
